ENDOSCOPIC SLEEVE GASTROPLASTY (ESG)

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE?

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is an FDA approved non-surgical weight loss procedure.  It reduces the size of your stomach using an endoscopic suturing device without the need for surgery.

During the procedure, an endoscope is carefully inserted through the mouth into the stomach.  A tiny camera allows the doctor see and enables the placement of sutures in the stomach.  These sutures (stitches) reduce the structure of your stomach to a smaller tube shape.  The 60-90 minute procedure is designed to decrease the amount of food the stomach can hold.  After a brief recovery period, patients typically go home the same day.

BENEFITS OF THE PROCEDURE

Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is often an option for people who aren't candidates for bariatric surgery.  Unlike bariatric surgery, endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is a non-surgical weight loss solution. Weight loss is rapid, with the majority of weight loss typically occurring in the first six months.

After the procedure, our program includes an individually tailored 18 month support program to help you stay motivated and overcome barriers in reaching your long-term weight loss goals.

RISKS OF THE PROCEDURE

As with any procedure there are risks involved.  Proper consumption of foods and following your doctor's orders may help reduce your chance of an unwanted complication.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

Since the endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is not yet covered by most insurance companies, there are financing options available.  If you're interested in exploring those options, you may download a financing fact sheet or visit Union Bank's website.

Additional Payment Options & Tax Benefits:  If you receive a diagnosis of obesity, high blood pressure, or diabetes, you may be able to use your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to cover a portion of the cost of the ESG procedure.  You may also be eligible to take advantage of tax deductions to help defray the cost.  To explore these options, talk with your tax advisor or the administrator of your HSA or FSA account.
