Dr. Michael Bauer is Board Certified in General Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine and completed his General Surgery Residency at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology & Chemistry from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
Dr. Bauer is an active member of the South Dakota State Medical Association (SDSMA), the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS).
Dr. Bauer holds an academic appointment from the University of South Dakota as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery and is active in the education of medical students and residents. He is also an Advanced Trauma Life Support Instructor.
Dr. Bauer has a special interest in all areas of minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery including robotic assisted techniques. His interests include general surgery; trauma/critical care; surgeries of the esophagus, stomach, colon, skin, lung, liver, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal gland; hernia repair; and obesity surgery including gastric bypass and the sleeve gastrectomy procedures. In addition, he has special interest in thoracic surgery and treating lung, liver, and esophageal cancers.
Dr. Bauer and his wife Elizabeth have five children. He enjoys fishing, hunting, camping, golf, basketball, college football, and spending time with his family.
