Emily E. K. Murphy, MD

Credentials

Dr. Emily Murphy received her medical degree from the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine and completed a residency in General Surgery at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Delaware. She went on to complete a Fellowship in Endocrine Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Murphy is Board Certified in General Surgery.

Professional Memberships

Dr. Murphy is an active member and Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). She is also a member of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons (AAES), the South Dakota State Medical Association (SDSMA), and the Association of Women Surgeons (AWS).

Teaching Experience

Dr. Murphy holds an academic appointment from the University of South Dakota as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery and is active in the education of medical students. Dr. Murphy is also an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Instructor providing trauma education to medical professionals across the state of South Dakota.

Special Interests

Dr. Murphy has interest in all areas of general surgery as well as utilizing minimally invasive surgical techniques. She has special interest in the surgical treatment of the endocrine system including that of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands.
