Dr. Strand offers general surgical procedures like hernias, cyst removal, laparoscopic colectomies, catheter placement and removal, hemorrhoid banding, lipomas, colonoscopies and diagnostic procedures.

"I provide the training to physicians, advanced practice practitioners, physician assistants--anyone who might staff an emergency room in a rural location," Dr. Smoot stated.

Riley earned his Master's Degree in Physician Studies from the University of South Dakota. Riley is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

As soon as he got the "green light" to begin performing elective surgeries again, Dr. Guardado's schedule was once again full. As his practice has grown, so has his comfort level with robotics, in which he was already well-trained.

When Certified NP Rebecca McDugle joined SI 11 years ago, she was the entire advanced practice arm of SI's Acute Care Surgicalist Service. The service provides Avera McKennan Hospital with round-the-clock general surgery coverage.

Carli Johnson, CNP, has joined Surgical Institute of South Dakota. Carli earned her Master of Science in Nursing and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from South Dakota State University.

Bauer says this team approach is a key part of SISD's excellent patient outcomes. In addition to the surgeons, the group includes nine advanced practice providers and a team of specialty trained nurses.
